Single Women

When you think of cheap clothing, do the terms ‘poorly made’ and ‘poor quality’ come to mind? This is the usual definition. However, this is not necessarily the case. You just need to know where to shop and where not to shop. Without mentioning names, everyone knows the stores where clothing that is poorly constructed of cheap materials can be found in abundance. These clothes don’t last long. This article focuses on the other type of cheap clothing, which although it’s inexpensive, is well constructed of quality materials.

Upscale second hand shops have flourished here in the U.S. for many years and might even be said to be a virtual cottage industry. Depending on the shop, some are quite persnickety in the clothing items they’ll accept, featuring designer clothes and jewelry from the finest stores. They buy them cheaply from people in the local community and are fair in their markups. You may easily find a beautiful wool suit that looks as though it were never worn, for as little as $20. This is cheap clothing, but only your wallet will know.

Single Women
Vintage shops specialize in retro fashions and are quite popular with young teen and college aged shoppers. You’ll find selections from every decade, some dating back as far as the 19th century. Depending on the decade and its current popularity, you can indeed find cheap clothing that’s absolutely cool and trendy for today’s woman. Most vintage shops also have shoes, hats, jewelry and other accessories to match for a completely coordinated costume.

Senior Care Services

June 10, 2008

When my grandmother had a stroke twenty years ago, we were not sure if she would live or die. She lived, and for that I am grateful, but I often wonder if she is happy. She was never the same after her stroke, and much of the woman we knew went away with that event. She was something of herself for a while, but she just seemed to fade away. She still communicates, and can walk with the aid of a walker, but her vigor was gone, and I really miss how she use to be. When she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure a few years ago, my grandfather decided he could not longer care for her on his own any longer, and he looked into senior care services.

My grandfather had taken care of her for a very long time, and he was very good at it. He was also very active with the things that he had always done, and many in the family would spend time with her when he needed to get out of the house for whatever reason. He always was in good spirits, but he was also not getting any younger. He thought that if he found senior care services that could come in for just part of the day that he could still handle the rest, but it took him a long time to find the right senior care services that he felt comfortable with having in his home.

He finally went with what turned out to be a great senior care services company. They employ nurses only, and these nurses can come for a few hours or even a few days, depending on what he needed help with. My grandmother is not terribly hard to care for, but there are some things that he has a hard time helping her do and accomplish. Those that come from the senior care services company he hired have always been wonderful and have surpassed his expectations.

Though there are some great places out there, but there are also some senior care services that should be avoided. It is not always easy to tell the difference. When looking for such a service, references are essential. If you cannot seem to find anyone that can give any senior care services a glowing review, you might want to go somewhere else and find some place that you feel comfortable with. Most importantly, make sure you listen to your gut instincts, as they are rarely wrong.

Advertising on the Internet

June 2, 2008

If you’re selling products online, you may well succeed or fail based on the soundness of your advertising campaign. Advertising on the internet requires different methods than conventional advertising campaigns of the past, where magazine ads, radio and television commercials were the heavy hitters. The electronic advertising campaign may seem a bit confusing to a novice, but once you get used to the jargon and learn the ropes, you’ll find advertising on the internet a successful venture indeed.

Advertising on the internet is, of course, all about exposure of your product and the public. When you consider there are billions of users out there, your prospects are out there.

Getting the right exposure is the trick. There are lots of avenues to explore to get your product before your target audience. While one advertising effort works for you, another may not. You need to determine, through testing, which advertising on the internet avenues bring customers to your site.

Some people feel that “pay-per-click” advertising on the internet is the best way to reach targeted traffic. Have you heard of Google “AdWords”? These are big impact text ads that appear on the right hand side of the Google Search page and may also be displayed on other sites, as related content. This form of advertising on the internet can bring good and swift results.

When developing your advertising campaign, don’t neglect the ezine advertising opportunities. This may be a good strategy if your advertising budget is small. Here’s how it works.

You know your product better than anyone, right? Dust off your keyboard and write an article that showcases your knowledge of your subject product. If you’re selling art posters, write an article on a famous and interesting artist. At the end of the article, include your byline, which should generally be about 25 words. Something like “Jane Sweetheart owns the Postershop.com site, specializing in fine art prints, botanical prints and antique posters.” will do just fine. Include a link to your site.

Next you’ll want to look for ezines geared to readers who would be interested in art posters. Look for good circulation numbers. Approach the website owner, offering the article for free in exchange for your byline. If the site owner likes the article, you’ve lightened his load in producing his newsletter and gained some good exposure, advertising on the internet for free.

Advertising as a sponsor for electronic newsletters will cost you some money, but the prices aren’t steep compared to the exposure and traffic you gain. Write different ads, focused on different customer perspectives and run them in different newsletters. Track your response rates and fine tune your ads. Once the ad is “perfect”, pull the ads from publications that don’t bring a good response, keep advertising in the ones that do and search out new ezines to test your ads.

Advertising on the internet can be fun and lucrative once you get the hang of it.

Antique Furniture Reproductions

June 1, 2008

Most of the people I know who collect antiquities for sale are fans of age itself. They do not simply seek something with a novel design – they seek something that is part of an ancient world. I don’t quite understand the thrill that gives them, but it seems to be very powerful. I imagine that it allows them to pretend that they aren’t of their own time and live a vicarious life in the past through their possessions.

My interest in this kind of stuff is much different. I mostly collect antique furniture reproductions. You see, I don’t really particularly admire the past. I’d much rather live in my own time. We have all these modern conveniences that I wouldn’t be able to do without. Nonetheless, I do like some of the more classical aesthetics.

I have quite a variety of antique reproduction furniture. I started my collection of antique furniture reproductions early, you see, and have been really putting them together since college. My mom bought me a false mission chair when I went away to school. It was surprisingly inexpensive, and was quite an elegant design. It wasn’t my favorite chair in college – it wasn’t all that comfortable for sprawling around in or lying back on – but it did make my room look more impressive and classy.

I went through a period collecting antique furniture reproductions modeled after Chinese furniture. I particularly liked those Asian cabinets that you see. I’m talking about the red ones with the wide open shelves and the small delicate doorknobs. They have the simple beauty to them that you don’t really see even in modern furniture.

There is an antique reproduction furniture store down the block, and I spend a lot of time there. It’s pretty unusual to find a store that really specializes in antique furniture reproductions. It seems like a pretty niche market, and it’s strange to think that our community can support a store that only does that. Still, I’m grateful for it. Many of my best finds have come out of that place.

My favorite piece isn’t actually an antique furniture reproduction, but a reconstructed antique. It is a brass bed frame I bought, and it had actually been rebuilt from an original. Half of it have been handmade by someone and half of it was from the actual original design. It cost a lot more than my other antique furniture reproductions. Nonetheless, it was worth it. Nothing beats a beautiful, ornamental bed frame.
